I haven't got a question but more of a report of how we got on. I tried to put this in the October catch thread but it was locked.

I've never fished for carp on the canal before apart from my short session at the beginning of last week. Hoping to continue the success of that session I decided to do a full night session on the canal. A mate (Dan) decided to join me and we set up an hour before darkness,I think it was around 6pm.

The first run came on Dan's rod at about 10pm and he landed a 11.1 common. Twenty minutes later I hooked into a 11.2
common and an hour after that I landed another common at 8.8. We had to wait until 2am for the next fish but it was worth the wait. After 10 minutes a nice mirror graced the scales at 24.2 which was a new pb for Dan. My last fish came at about 4.15am and was my biggest fish of the session at 17.4. The last fish Dan caught was landed at about 5.30am and weighed 15.8.

6 fish it total weighing in at 88lb 5oz. All caught on homemade boilies. I'm very happy with that and I hope to go again in the next week or two but on a different stretch.

11.1 common

11.2 common

24.2 mirror

17.4 common

15.8 mirror

Yeah seems so. Hopefully they carry on so I can catch some more!!

We fished the giffard park stretch but I don't think it really matters where you fish on the guc because the fish more around so much!! (especially at night) I didn't see one carp in the stretch we fished during the days before so I just picked a likely spot.

The guc can be very good if you use the right tactics.

I find it very astonishing that so many people overlook the grand union canal when carp fishing,i have seen a few monsters emerge from the shadows when i have walked along the canal in the summer!!!! It is always worth trying to catch them as i know from past exploits that they fight like no other when you hook them! Well done again and heres hoping you manage to catch many more!

I think what puts me off is the fatc people are walking with in a few feet of you all the time. Not to mention the boats and dogs.

I would agree there are some cracking carp to be caught and it would be very easy to consitently bait a swim as not that many people fish it.

Ranger: We only saw a couple of people walking during the night and the boats stopped around 6pm. I thought the boats would start coming thick and fast in the morning but we left at about 8am and not one came past. I would expect more in the middle of summer though.

andrew: Bait up at dusk with 20-30 boilies for a few days before then when you fish have 6-10 freebies around it and wait (we waited 4 hours for the first fish). When the carp come back to the swim they will gobble the lot. Lots of info on this forum re canal carping so just do a search and you'll learn alot more.
